1947-50: Bring on the sun

With the war being over men returned from the war and took up work as per usual. Due to this families received more leisure time and with this new leisure time resorts set up practically over night and demand was high for resort wear.

From this demand Annual fashion shows for beach wear were held in St Tropez whilst the French Riviera became a hot spot for fashion musts.
In 1947 the first bikini was unveiled shocking and elating many fashion followers. So much skin had never been on show before and now a swimsuit, resembling underwear was to become a staple style in beachwear for years to come.
