1960-70: Miss Mary Quant

In 1955 Mary Quant opened up her fist boutique called Bazaar. She was already busy adopting the sack dress silhouette created by Givenchy and Balenciaga. Quant was largely influenced by dance outfits from her youth and Chelsea Beatniks work. She was hailed for popularising the mini skirt her garments were simple but brought to life with bright colours. By 1963 Mary Quant's success in London allowed her to open a second Bazaar store in Knightsbridge. She later created a lower priced fashion line appealing to a wider clientèle called Ginger Group. She was a large part of the mod and other youth fashion movements.
