1960-70: Pucci power

Emilio Pucci first gained attention in 1947 when a friend who worked for "Bazaar" magazine saw his sleek designs. He received offers from several American manufacturers but turned them all down to start his own Haute Couture fashion house in Canzone del Mar on the Isle of Capris.

He used his knowledge of stretch fabrics to start a swimwear line in 1949 but soon moved on to bright and bold printed silk scarves.
In 1959 Pucci decided to start a lingerie line. His atelier in Rome encouraged to him to start and develop the line abroad to avoid problems they had encountered in the swimwear line. As a result of this persuasion, Pucci flew out to Chicago, USA and and signed a contract with Formfit-Roger Mills. This move proved to be very successful as Pucci was once a gain catapulted into the stratosphere of high fashion and was even made Vice President of the company only one year later.

Emilio Pucci was world renowned for the kaleidoscope of colours he used in every garment. He freed women from drab colour palettes and brought in the new wave of chic, bold prints and vivid, lively colours; truly a master of colour.
