1990: Dawn of the Noughties

the 90's was a considerably calmer decade in the fashion world. After the craziness of the eighties died out a more subdued trend emerged.

Mullets and baseball caps were both big deals, as were tapered trousers and baggy shirts.

Grunge became a popular subculture where many wore darker colours and layered their looks. Often pairing their outfits with unwashed hair and dark makeup. The band Nirvana were a popular example of grunge idols that many teens and young adults based their looks after.

Mainstream fashion however, was all about cute colours and bubbly prints.

In the mid-nineties military influence crept back into fashion as it had done in previous decades. Camouflage print garments became a big trend as did machine like accessories. These camouflage prints were often ironically worn by anti-war protesters.

A little while after this in the late-nineties, rave culture swept through the nation captivating the younger generations. The focus shifted to looking richer than you actually were and glamour returned once again. The grunge styles of the mid-nineties were out, looking well dressed and rich was in.

Clothes in the nineties weren't too different form how we wear fashion today. With tighter fitting clothes gradually being introduced and the return of name brand shops fashion hasn't much changed.
