2000's: A new millennium
After finding out that the world wasn't going to end with the new millennium things, surprisingly, carried on as usual.
Double denim swept the nation in a sea of blue, grey and acid wash. Although I'm not a fan, if done right double denim can look very pretty and chic in some cases.
Gypsy skirts became a popular garment and flew of the shelves when summer came round.
3/4 length cargo shorts were worn as an alternative to the boho gypsy skirt. These shorts were often worn in khaki or camouflage prints and paired with a short boob tube or tank top. Pop stars of the noughties could be commonly identified by the clothes they wore and how they influenced mainstream fashion. Bands like Destiny's Child were always donned in cargo shorts and matching tube tops.
90's pop-rock sweetheart Avril Lavigne welcomed a new trend that she had created. It became a popular trend to pair casual clothes with a skinny tie giving the dressed up casual look. She often contrasted her mainly black outfits with fun, bright coloured ties to give a burst of brightness to her ensembles. This became her trademark look that she still carries to this day.
The noughties was perhaps the most musically influenced decade in fashion as every trend that started could be traced back to bands and their own clothes.
